Flagler County
History
Flagler County was
established in 1917, and named in honor of Henry M. Flagler, who
played such an important role in the development of Florida's
East Coast, principally through the building of the Florida East
Coast Railroad.
The county is bordered by
St. Johns, Putnam and Volusia Counties and the Atlantic Ocean.
It is noted for its 20 miles of beach and the site of Marineland.
In 1975, Flagler county
Commissioners formed the Palm Coast Service District, a special
taxing district to provide government services.
In 1983, Daytona Beach
Community College/Flagler opened on 100 acres in Palm Coast,
with an outdoor amphitheatre.
